The estrone test, sometimes known as an E1 test and an estrone lab test, measures the estrone blood level.

Estrone, also known as E1, is one of 3 types of estrogen. Estrone (E1) is a sex hormone made from androstenedione and cholesterol. Estrone is typically made in adipose cells and sex glands. In obesity, estrone is made from androstenedione in higher quantities. In addition to estradiol and estriol, it is considered a type of estrogen hormone although it has a much weaker effect in the body. Most of the estrone hormone in the bloodstream is bound to albumin and sex hormone-binding globulin and concurrent testing with the SHBG test is sometimes performed. Elevated levels have been associated with certain cardiovascular diseases and cancer, particularly in post-menopausal women.
