RNP Blood Test - More Information
The RNP test, also known as an anti-RNP antibody test, measures the RNP antibody blood level.
RNP, or ribonucleoprotein particles, antibodies are proteins made by the immune system that inadvertently attack special molecules in cells called ribonucleoproteins. RNPs are important for managing the production and metabolism of genetic material such as DNA and RNA. RNP antibodies are seen in many people with lupus, mixed connective tissue disease and Sjogren's syndrome. This RNP lab test is sometimes ordered with the Sjogren's antibody panel.
To get an RNP antibody test near you at a Quest Diagnostics lab, just order online and get your blood drawn at the selected lab. As can be seen on the RNP test sample report above, the lab will report whether RNP antibodies have been detected in the blood or not. A normal RNP antibody level almost always excludes the presence of a mixed connective-tissue disease. This RNP antibody blood test is a component of the lupus test panel.
