The interleukin-1 beta test, also known as an IL-1 test, interleukin-1 lab test and IL-1 blood test, measures the interleukin-1 blood level.
Interleukin-1, or IL-1, is a cell signaling molecule known as a cytokine. Interleukin-1 is produce by a number of immune cells, including macrophages and monocytes. IL-1 has a number of functions in the body, including helping with nerve and bone formation, insulin secretion and fever regulation. Interleukin-1 also enhances the sensation of pain. Interleukin-1 testing is sometimes done along with the interferon-alpha test, interleukin-2 test, interleukin-6 test and the TNF blood test to assess cytokine levels.
