What is an allergy blood test?
An allergy blood test is a lab test that measures the concentration of antibodies - a special type of protein made by the immune system - in your blood related to specific types of foods and environmental chemicals.

What is an allergy?
Allergies are a class of conditions in which the immune system reacts to specific foreign substances (i.e. antigens) that do not affect most other people. For whatever reason, people who have allergies to specific antigens react strongly to the presence of those antigens in their bodies.

Why do allergies cause symptoms?
Allergy symptoms are largely a complication of the body's attempt to clear out the specific antigen. In the process of attempting to handle the antigen, the immune system releases a number of chemicals which cause the traditional symptoms of allergies. Classic symptoms of an allergic response include a runny nose, itchy eyes, rash and shortness of breath.

How does allergy blood testing work?
Allergy blood tests measure the concentration of specific type of antibodies - IgE antibodies - in the blood for specific antigens. By measuring the IgE antibody concentration levels, one can get a relative sense for the intensity with which the specific allergen is affecting the body.

What is the process of getting allergy testing at Accesa Labs?
To get allergy blood testing near you at an affiliated lab, simply order the tests you want online and visit the lab on the day of your appointment. A small amount of your blood will be drawn and your sample will be run on standard lab equipment to measure the levels of allergen-specific antibodies in your blood. Once you get your allergy test results, you will be able to compare your levels to the reference ranges provided by the lab to understand what specific IgE class you are in for the allergen tested. Do I have to pay more at the lab?
No. The lab will simply test you.

When do I get my allergy test results?
Most test results are available in 3-4 business days. In many cases, we get the results in as soon as 1 business day but it depends on how fast the lab can process your allergy test sample (out of our control). Our software checks for allergy test results throughout the day and will send you secure access to a PDF of your results as soon as we receive them.
