The HTLV test, also known as a human T-lymphotropic virus antibody lab test, measures the HLTV I and II blood antibody levels.
HTLV, or human T-lymphotropic virus, is a class of viruses that cause various types of blood cancers and inflammatory conditions. Known as a type of retrovirus, the two predominant types are HTLV type 1 (HTLV-1) and HTLV type 2 (HTLV-2). HTLV-1 is associated with leukemia and muscle disorders. HTLV-2 may be linked to lung and nervous system conditions.
