GlycoMark ® Test - More Information
The GlycoMark ® test, also known as a GlycoMark ® blood test, is a lab test that helps assess glycemic variability in people who have diabetes.
The GlycoMark ® test measures the levels of a molecule in the blood called 1,5-anhydroglucitol, or 1,5-AG. 1,5-AG is a special type of sugar in the blood. While the hemoglobin A1c test measures the average blood glucose levels over a period of time, it cannot identify how many blood glucose spikes occurred outside of the recommended ranges during that time period. The GlycoMark ® test, on the other hand, can identify high variances (sometimes referred to as glycemic variability) using its measurement of the 1,5-AG type of blood sugar. Using the GlycoMark ® test, one can get a measurement of one's blood glucose levels over the past 7-14 days. Also, the GlycoMark ® blood test can measure glycemic variance without the need for fasting ahead of time.
To get a GlycoMark ® test near you at a reasonable cost, order online and get tested at your selected Quest Diagnostics lab. Once your GlycoMark ® lab report is ready, it will be available for electronic download. In people with diabetes with moderate glycemic control (i.e. hemoglobin a1c levels less than 8%), GlycoMark ® levels less than 8 µg/mL suggest significant glycemic variability. In these circumstances, the glucose variability may be due to post meal blood glucose levels increasing above 180 mg/dL.
