Mycoplasma Test - More Information
The Mycoplasma test, also known as a Mycoplasma pneumoniae test, Mycoplasma antigen test, and Mycoplasma blood test, measures Mycoplasma pneumonia IgG and IgM antibody blood levels.
Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a bacteria that often causes bronchitis and other pulmonary infections. Classified as an atypical bacterium, Mycoplasma pneumoniae causes more than 2% of community-acquired pneumonias in the United States. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is transmitted by exposure from the droplets of infected people and infections can usually be treated with antibiotics.
To get a Mycoplasma test near you at a Quest Diagnostics lab, simply order online and get tested at your selected lab location. Once your Mycoplasma lab results are ready, they will be available for electronic download.
As can be seen on the Mycoplasma pneumoniae sample lab report link above, your antibody levels will be reported as a number in the results column and can be compared against the Mycoplasma blood IgG and IgM levels provided by the lab.
The Mycoplasma blood test is sometimes ordered along with the infection panel test to screen for a wider range of possible infections.
