Getting tested for diabetes just got easier. We’re happy to announce that Accesa Labs has partnered with the YMCA LA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, which is supported by the Torrance Memorial Medical Center, to provide discounted Hemoglobin A1c tests throughout November in support of Diabetes Awareness Month.
The A1c test is a highly effective screening test for pre-diabetes, and is available to YMCA members, family and friends for $23 (regular $54) from November 1st to 30th, as part of the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program. YMCA members and Accesa Labs customers can schedule a Hemoglobin A1c test through our website using promo code YMCALA2017.
Empowering people to make healthy lifestyle choices is a shared goal of Accesa Labs and the YMCA. In our mission to make preventative measures like prediabetes A1c testing easier and more accessible, we can’t imagine a more kindred organization to partner with than the YMCA.
As Jamisson Costa, Regional Director of YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program explains: “Diabetes effects 1 in 10 Los Angeles County residents and is the leading cause of heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and nerve disease. When caught early, pre-diabetes symptoms can be reversed through lifestyle changes like diet and regular exercise. Detection is key, however, because 9 out of 10 people who are pre-diabetic are unaware. This is why the Hemoglobin A1c test is so important.”
The Hemoglobin A1c is considered a highly effective screening test for diabetes, as it measures average blood glucose (also known as blood sugar) over the course of months. No fasting is required prior to the test. Test results between 5.7% and 6.4% may indicate a patient is at-risk for being pre-diabetic. The chart below is helpful in converting your Hemoglobin A1c results into an estimated average blood sugar level.
Getting tested for diabetes is easy with hassle-free signup on our website — and the test can be performed at one of Quest Diagnostics convenient lab locations. To simplify the testing process, a doctor-approved lab order and lab fees are included in all Accesa Labs orders, with no advance office visits required. Hemoglobin A1c results are typically available electronically within 2 business days. Additional diabetes tests are also available at Accesa Labs, including tests for diabetes management and more.
The more you know, the better off you’ll be. That’s why we highly encourage anyone who suspects they’re at risk, especially those with a family history of diabetes, to schedule a prediabetes A1c test today.
