TBG Blood Test - More Information
The TBG test, also known as a TBG blood test, TBG lab test, and thyroxine-binding globulin test, is a lab test that measures the TBG blood level.
TBG, or thyroxine-binding globulin, is a glycoprotein that is produced in the liver. Although it is present in relatively low concentrations in the blood, TBG is responsible for binding the thyroid hormones T3 and T4 in the blood. As a result, TBG testing is often done concurrently with the total T3 test and the total T4 test.
To get a TBG test near you, order online and get your blood drawn at the Quest Diagnostics lab that you selected. Once your TBG lab results are ready, they will be available for download. As can be seen on the sample TBG lab report, the TBG blood levels are reported as a number and can be compared against the reference range provided by the lab.
TBG testing can be a helpful additional test when one is ordering a hypothyroidism test panel or a hyperthyroidism test panel, particularly when the levels of other thyroid hormones are relatively normal.
