CoQ10 Test - More Information
The coenzyme Q10 test measure the CoQ10 blood level.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble coenzyme that is important in cellular energy generation (particularly in the mitochondria of cells) and respiration. Sometimes known as ubiquinone, ubidecarenone, and coenzyme Q, coenzyme Q10 is frequently used as a dietary supplement to enhance heart function and for antioxidant effects.
Low coenzyme Q10 levels are typically caused by increased utilization during higher metabolic states and decreased production. Chronic diseases and rare genetic abnormalities can contribute to decreased CoQ10 production as can specific medications. Low levels can lead to inadequate cellular energy production, an issue that can be particularly problematic for organs like the heart that have high metabolic requirements. High CoQ10 levels typically do not cause toxicity although side effects such as stomach upset can occur when too much is taken in the diet.
To get a CoQ10 test near you, just order online and get your blood drawn at the Quest Diagnostics lab that you selected. Once your CoQ10 lab report is ready, it will be available for download. As can be seen on the sample CoQ10 lab results above, the CoQ10 blood level will be reported as a numerical value and can be compared against the reference ranges provided by the lab.
