Lipase Blood Test - More Information
The lipase test, also known as a lipase blood test, lipase level test and pancreatic lipase lab test, measures the lipase blood level.
Lipase is an enzyme that breaks down fats. Produced in the pancreas and stomach, lipase is needed during the normal process of digestion. High lipase levels are seen in pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Low lipase levels can be seen in people with cystic fibrosis, Crohn's disease and celiac disease. Cystic fibrosis, in particular, often requires pancreatic enzyme supplementation.
To get a lipase test near you, order online and get your blood drawn at the selected Quest Diagnostics lab location. Once you lipase lab report is ready, it will be available for download. As can be seen on the sample report above, lipase test results are reported as a numerical value in U/L. The test results can be compared to the lipase reference range provided by the lab to assess whether levels are within range or not.
